The rich heritage of State Bank of Patiala dates back to the year 1917, when it was founded by Late His Highness Bhupinder Singh, Maharaja of erstwhile Patiala state, with one branch by the name of 'Chowk Fort, Patiala' to begin with. The Bank, then known as the 'Patiala State Bank' was state owned and setup for the explicit purpose of fostering growth of agriculture, trade and industry. The constitution, scope and operations of the Bank underwent a sea change with the formation of the Patiala and east Punjab States Union (PEPSU) in 1948. The Bank was then reorganized and brought under the control of Reserve Bank of India.

It was christened as the Bank of Patiala. Another milestone in history of the Bank was its becoming a subsidiary of the State Bank of India on 1st April, 1960 when it was named as the State Bank of Patiala and since then it has grown significantly both in size and volume of business. During these glorious years, the Bank has been playing an important role in banking sphere.

The Institute of Professional Studies was set up in June 2000 by the Executive Council of the University of Allahabad under Section 44 of the University of Allahabad Act, 2005. The basic objective is to develop linkages between the ‘World of Learning’ and the ‘World of Work’ through professional courses. The Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) has been created to mobilise and utilise the academic resources and the infrastructure of the University to provide short, medium and long-term professional courses on self-financing basis under the aegis of Centres dedicated to specific areas.

As an apex nucleating institute in the area of IT, the establishment of IIIT-A, is a major step of Govt. of India towards strengthening the indigenous capability necessary for exploiting profitably and harnessing multi-dimensional facets of IT at all levels, and attaining expertise to enable the country to emerge as a leading player in the global arena.

Article 350B of the Constitution provides for the appointment by President of a Special Officer for Linguistic Minorities. This Officer is known as Commissioner Lingusitic Minorities.

The Extension Centres of BIT Mesra were established with the objective of imparting academic and research programmes beyond the main campus of the Institute. All the extension centres function under the full academic and administrative control of BIT, the parent University.

The Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute became a Constituent Institute of the University of Allahabad on July 14, 2005, when the University of Allahabad Act, 2005 came into force. Established in 1980 as one in the network of Social Science Research Institutes, which Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) set up in association with the State Governments, in our case, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the Institute entered privileges of the University of Allahabad in 2005. The Institute undertakes interdisciplinary research in the field of social sciences.
