Short profile:
Oxford University Press is the world's largest university press, publishing more than 4, 500 new books a year; it has a presence in more than fifty countries and employs some 3, 700 people worldwide. OUP India was established in 1912 in Bombay (now Mumbai). After Mumbai, offices were established at Chennai and Kolkata, and an office at Delhi was opened in 1972. With the opening of the Delhi office, the headquarters of OUP India shifted from Mumbai to Delhi. Oxford University Press is a department of the University of Oxford. It furthers the University’s objective of excellence in research, scholarship, and education by publishing worldwide.
Detailed description:
OUP India's publishing operations currently fall into three distinct areas: academic, general and reference, higher education, and school education. Its academic list, in the humanities and social sciences, is widely acknowledged to be the most distinguished in the world on subjects relating to South Asia. Its growing reference publishing in India is considered a pioneering effort in this exclusive field. OUP in India is an integral part of the Press's worldwide organization. Like OUP internationally, it propagates the liberal objectives of the University to further education and learning through publications that reflect the specific needs of the country that it serves.
