Detailed description:
UPTU Faculty of Architecture, Lucknow, located on a 6-acre site, is at a walking distance from the city center of Hazratganj. It started as a part of Government College of Arts & Crafts in 1912 and is one of the oldest in the country. The College separated from Government College of Arts and Crafts in 1976, was renamed in 1980 and since then has an independent entity as Government UPTU Faculty of Architecture. Till the academic session of 1999-2000 the College ran a 5-year degree course leading to a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and was affiliated to Lucknow University for award of the Bachelor' degree but from the academic session 2000-2001, as per the decision of the government, similar to all other technical institutions of the State, it got affiliated to U.P. Technical University (Madan Mohan Malviya Technical University) for all academic matters. The administrative Control and the financial grants of the College are with the Technical Education Department of the UP Government. The College, since its inception, has acquired a reputation for its studio-based curriculum providing a balanced understanding of architecture and a stimulating environment for creativity. The College has a well-stocked library with approximately 12000 books and journals, a developing computer laboratory and good hostel facilities for girls and boys. The College also has proposals to start two more under-graduate and some post-graduate courses in the Tenth five-year plan (2001-2006) for which the Government has already sanctioned an amount of Rs.375 Crores. Besides its annual grants from the Government, the College is also able to get additional grants for development works from the Government, the College is also able to get additional grants for development works from UPSEAT to the extent of Rs.25 lacs in the financial year 2001-2002 and is allowed to spend a part of the fees generated from admission to its paid seats for NRI students.
